Tua Tagovailoa (QB, MIA) - Week 16 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Another week, another good game for rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa. And it's been three in a row already in which Tua has reached at least 16 FP and finished as a QB2 at the very least. Miami didn't want to risk it a lot and started the season featuring veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, and even benched Tua in favor of Fitz midway through the season. No matter what, it was easy to see Tua becoming the real deal of this team sooner rather than later, and that's precisely what is happening and what could make Miami a playoff team in two weeks time.

Tua's 19.7 FP against New England this past weekend not only became his third-best game of the season but also left the Pats outside of the postseason after a thousand years making it. Tua finished 20-of-26 passing for a low 145 yards and no touchdowns, but he did most of his damage on the ground rushing for a couple of touchdowns. While efficient on the passing game (76.9% completion rate), Tagovailoa was picked off once (the second game in a row), yet he made up for it with his great rushing prowess.

While Tua still has a long road ahead when it comes to becoming a top-tier passer, so far he's found ways to boost his fantasy upside mostly avoiding interceptions (two in seven starts) and lately scoring rushing touchdowns (three in the last two games).

Miami visits Las Vegas in Championship Sunday next weekend. The Raiders have a bottom-third defense (23rd-best) against fantasy QBs, so Tua should put on some good fantasy performance once more. Great streaming option for those of you playing for the chip, and a definite must-add-and-start for fantasy GMs in super deep formats with upside for a QB1 score.
