Trey Murphy (SF, NOP) - Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 22

ANALYSIS: Trey Murphy has started games for the Pelicans all season long. He spent a few games as part of the second unit after returning from the AS break, but that’s now in his rearview mirror with seven consecutive starts in as many games from Mar. 3 on. And what a freaking run of performances this one has been.

Murphy has scored at least 13 points in each of the past seven games. He has scored 15+ in six of those seven, 20+ in two, and a season-high 41 just a week ago when he dumped nine three-point shots on the Clippers while adding seven rebounds, one steal, one block, and one dime to his stat line. Sheesh.

It’d be crazy to consider Murphy that type of nightly performer... or would it? The truth is, Murphy has played a lot of minutes and that has helped the counting stats to reach gaudy marks, but it’s also true that Murphy has been shooting steadily good percentages for a long time now while also hitting tons of treys, grabbing his fair amount of rebounds, and contributing on the ancillary steals/blocks cats all year long.

Murphy is averaging 18-4-2-1 lines this month to go with 4 3PM per game and nearly one block a pop. The turnovers are barely in his nightly stat lines, which also helps for those in formats factoring that stat into fantasy calculations. Forget about seeing Murphy putting up unreasonable efficiency (FP/min) numbers because he’s playing more than 37 MPG, so it’s just impossible for him to get there. On the other hand, that bulky playing time is always going to help him pad the counting stats.
