Fantasy Baseball Impact Of The Reds Reportedly Signing Trey Mancini To A Minor-League Deal
According to a tweet from MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon on Wednesday night, the Cincinnati Reds have reportedly signed Trey Mancini to a minor league contract.
Sheldon tweeted the following:
The veteran first baseman and outfielder signed with the Chicago Cubs as a free agent over the offseason but struggled with the club in 79 games. Mancini hit just .234 with a .299 on-base percentage, four home runs, and a career-low 73 wRC+ in 263 plate appearances.
Recently designated for assignment by Chicago, he’ll now reportedly head to another National League Central club in the Cincinnati Reds. Capable of playing first base and the outfield corners, Mancini will give the Reds some quality depth in the minors. He is certainly worth keeping an eye on for fantasy managers in deeper leagues in the event that he’s called up.
Just last season, the 31-year-old collected 18 home runs in 587 plate appearances. His expected home run number in Cincinnati at Great American Ballpark would’ve been 34, higher than any other stadium in the league. Suffice it to say there’s plenty of power potential here, especially if Mancini can bounce back from his early-season struggles with the Cubs in Chicago.
