ANALYSIS: While Burke had a disappointing start to his career, the Mavs added him to their roster on a fully-guaranteed, three-year deal last season in time for the postseason run inside Orlando's bubble. And he hasn't looked back since then. Now a seven-year vet playing his eighth season as a pro, Burke has been quite useful for Dallas and has been on the court more often than not through the last five games of the franchise.
The two halves of Burke's season up to Wednesday are clearly differentiated. In the first to eighth-game span: 18 MPG averaging a 10-1-1 line. In the last five games: 29 MPG (including a start) with an average 13-2-2-1 line. The jump might not look impressive, but some underlying numbers such has his slightly lower usage rate and higher per-minute efficiency on longer stretches of play paint a great picture of Burke and bode well for him going forward.
Burke has scored an average of 3 treys per game in his last six games going back to Jan. 9th. He's scored 13+ points in four of those six matches, and 22+ in two of them. He's contributing rebounds and dimes on a nightly basis, avoiding turnovers with ease, and slowly improving on a cold shooting percentage from the floor to start the season (around 38%) that is at 43% in the past week of games.
