ANALYSIS: All credit for Trevor Siemian’s continued improvement lies with the Denver Broncos for their belief and patience with him. The 25-year-old surprised everyone by winning the starting job last year, but once again managed to emerge as the starter this season. After an average debut in victory against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1, Siemian really made some noise this past week as his Broncos hosted the Dallas Cowboys. The Northwestern Wildcat completed 22 of 32 passes for 231 yards, but managed to toss four touchdowns.
Siemian is not a favorable option as starting quarterback on fantasy teams at the moment, that is one thing we must make clear. He does, however, fit in the tier of Alex Smith and Joe Flacco as a strong backup option. Denver’s powerful team makes nearly every week a favorable one to start Siemian, which is what we seek in a backup. His passing game, featuring the likes of Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas, means he doesn’t have to worry too much about the receivers.
Perhaps the biggest strength for Siemian is his running game, led by CJ Anderson, who obliterated the Cowboys defense this past week. If Anderson continues to be a menace, Siemian will gain an even higher level of comfortability, meaning better performances and more points for his prospective owners. Owned in a small percentage of leagues, he’s more than able to serve in the backup role as someone who can come off the bench at any given moment and perform more than serviceably.
