ANALYSIS: After an inauspicious start to the 2017 season with a stint on the DL, Trevor Rosenthal is back on fantasy radars. Any time a former closer with two seasons of 40+ saves finds his way back to the ninth inning, it's noteworthy. In this case, it's only one save for Rosenthal so far and Seung Hwan Oh is still the closer, but the distance between the two could be closing. Oh has five saves, but a 5.59 ERA and 1.66 WHIP could send him back to a setup man role if things don't turn around. Meanwhile, Rosenthal has struck out 11 batters in 5 1/3 innings without issuing a single free pass.
Rosenthal suffered from injuries last year which compounded his bad early start and resulted in him losing his job altogether. His skill set remains, however, as evidenced by an average velocity of 99.1 MPH on his fastball. He is utilizing his slider more than ever at an 11.4% clip, which is more than double his career average. It's too early to jump completely on the bandwagon, but those of you hard-pressed for saves might be wise to make Rosenthal your first RP stash.
