ANALYSIS: There has been much ado about the Marlins young pitching staff to kick off the 2019 campaign, and it is easy to see why. Of that group, right-hander Trevor Richards may have the most promise, but also the most volatility. Case in point: he currently sports a 2.00 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a nice 25 K%, but he also has an ugly 13.9 BB% and a 4.85 SIERA.
His last outing was a good example of his volatility. He threw six shutout innings, only allowing one hit and striking out seven against a solid Cincinnati lineup. But his five walks are definitely a concern, and will hold him back and make him susceptible to some ugly starts.
Still, when his changeup is dialed in he's got some of the best stuff in the game, and the 25-year-old has the tools to become a top-50 fantasy arm as soon as 2019. I'm picking him up in 12-teamers wherever possible, but preparing myself for a handful of clunkers going forward.
