Fantasy Baseball Impact Of Trevor Gott Heading To Mets
The New York Mets swung a trade on Monday, per a tweet from the club’s official Twitter account. Per the tweet, the Mets acquired right-handed pitchers Trevor Gott and Chris Flexen from the Seattle Mariners for left-handed reliever Zach Muckenhirn. However, with Flexen being designated for assignment, it’ll only be Gott joining the club’s major league roster.
The former Milwaukee Brewer and San Francisco Giant has enjoyed a solid season for the Mariners so far, pitching to a 4.03 ERA and a 3.02 FIP in 30 appearances spanning 29 innings. Gott has also added 32 strikeouts compared to just eight walks. He’s racked up seven holds so far. Only Matt Brash, Paul Sewald, and Justin Topa have more high-leverage appearances in the Seattle bullpen so far than Gott.
Now, the veteran will head to New York, where he could step into a similar role and provide quality fantasy production in saves+holds leagues.
The Mets entered play Tuesday ranked fourth in the league in holds with 53, yet just one reliever -- David Robertson -- is sporting an fWAR north of the 0.2 mark. Only three relievers total on the Mets roster even have a positive fWAR, so it’s entirely possible that Gott establishes himself quickly in New York.
