Top 25 Fantasy Baseball Prospects to Stash (Redraft): Eric Cross' Rookie Rankings for Week 4

Jordan Lawlar - Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Draft Sleepers, MLB Rookies

Eric Cross' top 25 fantasy baseball prospects to stash in redraft for Week 4 (2025). His updated MLB rookie rankings for prospect call-ups to make 2025 impacts.

As we head into the last week of April, the Prospect Promotion Incentive deadline has passed, and the next notable date is the Super-2 threshold, which is expected to be on May 9. That's not to say we won't see prospect promotions happen between now and then, but it might be a couple of weeks before the next big swoon of prospect promotions happens.

We had several notable prospect promotions over the last week, though, including Agustin Ramirez, Luke Keaschall, and speedster Chandler Simpson. But on the flip side, we also saw Matt Shaw get optioned from the Cubs back down to Triple-A Iowa after his slow start to the season.

These prospect rankings are for 2025 redraft value only. These are MLB prospects who could potentially make a fantasy baseball impact in 2025 redraft leagues. You can also see our top fantasy baseball dynasty prospects rankings for longer-term outlooks and our 2025 fantasy baseball rankings dashboard for all other league formats.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings Analysis

Agustin Ramirez, Miami Marlins

We need to start by talking about Agustin Ramirez, who is getting the call to Miami today for his Major League debut. I've been high on Ramirez ever since I saw him live in Double-A early in 2024, and he's been hitting well ever since. He racked up 25 home runs and 22 steals with a .267/.358/.487 slash line in 126 games last season, and already has three home runs and five steals in 19 games this season for Triple-A Jacksonville.

Ramirez is one of the rare catchers who can also bring some speed to the table for fantasy teams. I'm not expecting him to be a 20-steal guy like he was in 2023, but six to 10 over a full season is a reasonable expectation. That could come with 20-25 home runs and a respectable AVG/OBP as well. Through his first 50 batted balls in Triple-A this season, Ramirez was sporting a 44 percent hard-hit rate, but his zone and overall contact rates have dipped a bit.

This is a no-brainer target in two-catcher formats, and I'd be willing to give Ramirez a look in single-catcher formats as well, given the upside he possesses. He could be a top-10 catcher over the rest of the season.

Jordan Lawlar, Arizona Diamondbacks

There aren't many prospects hotter than Jordan Lawlar right now. In his last 10 games for Triple-A Reno, Lawlar is slashing .410/.489/.974 with 11 extra-base hits, five home runs, four steals, and six walks.

Of course, Lawlar didn't have much of a sample size to work with in 2024, but he's improved his zone contact, overall contact, and all of his quality of contact metrics this season. He's received starts at second base, third base, and shortstop as well, and should be the next infielder up for Arizona when that need arises.

This is still a Top-20 overall fantasy prospect in my personal rankings and one of the highest priority stashes right now due to his power/speed blend, proximity, and potential multi-positional eligibility.

Matt Shaw, Chicago Cubs

For those of you who invested a Top 250 pick on Matt Shaw this spring, I'm sure you're probably pretty disappointed right now. Shaw didn't do a whole lot in his 18 games with the Cubs, slashing .172/.294/.241 with one home run and zero steals.

In shallower formats, he's safe to drop right now as I'm sure the Cubs will give him at least a few weeks to get going at the plate in Triple-A before bringing him back up. But in deeper formats with plenty of bench spots, I'm not opposed to holding him either, as he now becomes one of the 10 best prospects to stash in redraft leagues.

Roman Anthony, Boston Red Sox

It's about time we check in on Roman Anthony, my top overall fantasy prospect and the top overall prospect for many outlets right now. To no surprise, Anthony is hitting well for Triple-A Worcester. In his first 18 games, Anthony is slashing .273/.415/.530 with eight extra-base hits, four home runs, two steals, and nearly as many walks (16) as strikeouts (19).

Anthony has been pounding the ball all season with a 98.6 mph AVG EV, 63.8 percent hard-hit rate, and a ridiculous 31.9 percent barrel rate. At this point, the Red Sox will likely wait until the Super-2 date in the second week of May to bring up Anthony, but this is a prospect who should be well worth the wait.

Carson Whisenhunt, San Francisco Giants

Without question, one of the hottest pitchers in Triple-A right now is San Francisco's Carson Whisenhunt. In his first four starts, Whisenhunt has pitched to the tune of a 2.70 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 2.5 percent walk rate, and a 29.1 percent strikeout rate. He's coming off a phenomenal start on Saturday, where he tossed six shutout innings with nine strikeouts while allowing just one hit and one walk.

Whisenhunt had 17 whiffs in this outing, including eight on his changeup, which is an elite pitch and one of the best changeups in all of baseball, regardless of level. However, Whisenhunt is primarily a sinker/changeup arm, and his slider effectiveness comes and goes. He's definitely worth keeping an eye on and should be up soon, but he's not a high-priority stash at the moment.

Bubba Chandler, Pittsburgh Pirates

Similarly to Anthony, I think the Pirates are waiting for the Super-2 period to call up Bubba Chandler, but there are no other pitchers I'd rather stash for the rest of the season.

As expected, Chandler is off to a dominant start for Triple-A Indianapolis, posting a 1.76 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, and a 41.1 percent strikeout rate through his first four starts. He's yet to reach five innings or go higher than 69 pitches in any start, but the Pirates should ramp up that pitch count in the coming weeks before they bring him up to the Majors.

You can make an argument that Chandler is the best pitching prospect in baseball, and he's currently my No. 3 pitching prospect behind Andrew Painter and Jackson Jobe. If any pitching prospect in the minors were to post Top-25 SP value for the rest of the season after getting called up, Painter or Chandler are the two that could do it. I'm not saying he will, but that shows the upside that Chandler has.
