Analysis: Tony Cingrani is used to striking out batters left and right, but this season has been a different story as the Cincinnati Reds closer has a K/9 of just 6.6, while walking nearly as many batters at 5.3 BB/9. Cingrani has worked his ERA down to a 3.57 along with a 1.36 WHIP with nine saves this season in 35.1 IP. He has been especially good at home at Great American Ball Park this year by allowing a .631 OPS to opposing batters and producing a 2.53 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 21.1 IP.
Cingrani had a bad month in May that makes his season totals look far worse. After a 3.72 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 9.2 April innings; he imploded to allow a .897 opponent OPS, a 4.97 ERA, and a 1.50 WHIP. In June however, Cingrani has regained his rhythm. This month, he has allowed an opponent OPS of just .546, produced a 2.08 ERA, and a 1.077 WHIP in 13 innings. Cingrani has started slinging in June after a rough month and has become quite an asset.
