Few running backs have had the type of success that Todd Gurley and Mark Ingram have had this season, as both former SEC backs have taken the league by storm. Gurley has played like the Rams hoped he would when they took him No. 10 overall in the draft, and Ingram has finally come into his own as an every-down back in New Orleans.
Gurley is coming off the strongest outing of his young career after the Rams destroyed the Cleveland Browns 24-6 in Week 7. St. Louis has not been shy about giving the rookie the football as he’s averaged 22 carries over his last three games.
In that same span, Gurley is averaging 144 yards and 20.1 fantasy points per game in standard-scoring leagues. He won’t have the 28-point success against San Francisco like he did against Cleveland, but he is still more than capable of putting up double-digit points.
The 49ers are allowing 113 yards per game on the ground this season to go along with four yards per carry. With Nick Foles struggling mightily at quarterback, the Rams have the luxury of handing the ball off to Gurley to take the load off Foles. They’ve done it a lot in their last three games, and there’s no reason to think that won’t continue against their divisional foes.
The New Orleans Saints have transitioned from a pass-heavy offense revolving around Drew Brees to a run-first attack led by Ingram. Needless to say, Ingram has answered the bell nicely. The former Heisman Trophy winner has scored double-digit points in four of his last five games and has averaged more than 18 points per game in that span.
Ingram will have a juicy matchup against a New York Giants team that just allowed the Dallas Cowboys to torch them for more than 200 yards on the ground.
Ingram is averaging 13.4 fantasy points per game at home, and after a 20-point performance against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7, the Saints are firm believers in Ingram as their starting running back. New Orleans is no longer a pass-first team, and Ingram is the main beneficiary.
