MLB DFS Prop Picks for 4/7/23
Clarke Schmidt more than 4.5 strikeouts
Schmidt had a bit of a rocky start last week as he allowed three earned runs over 3 1/3 innings pitched, but also struck out five against the Giants. Today, he will be up against the Orioles, who have struck out at a rate of 25.7% across their first 175 plate appearances vs. right-handed pitching. This ranks eighth-worst in the league. Schmidt should be able to mow down at least five in this one.
Hunter Greene more than 7.5 strikeouts
We all know Greene is an elite strikeout pitcher as he posted an absurd 11.75 K/9 in 2022. Thus far in 2023, he has struck out eight batters across 3 1/3 innings pitched against the Pirates.
He will have a solid matchup today against the Phillies, who have posted a 29.2% K rate vs. righties over their first 154 plate appearances. This ranks second-worst in the league.
Brad Keller more than 3.5 strikeouts
This one scares me a bit as Brad Keller is not typically known for his strikeout prowess. He posted just a 6.57 K/9 in 2022 and owns just an 8.70 K/9 for his career. He does have a matchup I like today as he will be up against the Giants.
Over their first 232 plate appearances vs. right-handed pitching, the Giants have posted a K rate of 27.2%, which is ranked third-worst in the league. Keller also struck out six batters across 4 2/3 innings pitched in his first start of the season against the Twins.
Kyle Schwarber more than .5 total bases
Schwarber has started the season slow by hitting just .154, but he has now collected hits in three of his previous four games. He will be up against Hunter Greene (who we still like for strikeouts), who allowed 11 home runs to lefties in limited action in 2022.
Schwarber has also posted a .588 SLG with 66 home runs vs. right-handed pitchers since 2021. All we need here is one base knock to get us home!
