NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 5/25/24
The National Hockey League playoffs are nearing the end. Will Edmonton finally break their curse? During the playoffs, it is much more common to find low-scoring and heavy-hitting games. SCRATCH THAT! This year we have seen plenty of back-and-forth blowouts and teams getting swept! The fireworks have continued so far into the Conference Finals too! Tonight is a pivotal night in the Western Conference Finals. If Edmonton pulls off a 2-0 sweep in Dallas, it could be a tall hill to climb for the Stars as the series heads to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4. I will do my best to guide you through this showdown slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

Playoff Series To-Date
Edmonton Oilers at Dallas Stars: Edmonton is leading 1-0
DraftKings and FanDuel Captain - NHL DFS Picks
Connor McDavid - DK $16.5K || FD $15.5K
Opponent - Dallas Stars
Could this be the year? Can Connor McDavid, aka, McJesus, break the curse and bring Edmonton back to glory? There is a lot of hockey left to be played, however, he has started off the Western Conference Finals in good spirits. The Oilers Captain notched one goal, one assist, four shots, and two blocked shots in a 3-2 Game 1 win, and in his last five playoff games, he has one goal, five assists, 13 shots, and five blocked shots. These peripherals are screaming off the page!
McDavid in his last five games has set up his teammates more than they have set him up. This is a big change in his game, especially his blocked shots. These two stats are something critics have raved about for years when breaking down Sidney Crosby’s game and it looks like McDavid may be taking another page out of the successful veterans book. Roope Hintz of the Dallas Stars may be making a return in Game 2, but will it be enough to slow down McDavid and company?
Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):
- Nugent-Hopkins (DK $11.4K || FD $10K)
- Seguin (DK $11.1K || FD $11K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Flex Players - NHL DFS Picks
Zach Hyman - DK $9K || FD $13K
Opponent - Dallas Stars
As mentioned above, teammate Connor McDavid is starting to pass more than shoot and Zach Hyman is going to be the first beneficiary of such play. The winger has three goals, one assist, 18 shots, and three blocked shots in his last five playoff appearances. After just missing his all-time points record in one season by five points – 83 points last year –, Hyman is barely missing a goal-per-game pace in the playoffs with 12 goals in 13 games! He is also averaging around four and a half shots per game, setting himself apart from the rest of the playoffs as a leading shot-taker.
Wyatt Johnston - DK $8.4K || FD $12.5K
Opponent - Edmonton Oilers
Wyatt Johnston may not be the go-to center anymore if Roope Hintz returns, however, he will still be within the top six and he will also continue to be relied on to bring his strong two-way game. Johnston splashed onto the scene in the second half of the season and he has been a big reason why the Dallas Stars have maintained momentum in the playoffs. Throughout his last five games, he has two goals, one assist, 18 shots, and five blocked shots. His point production is not there, however, his peripherals are and they tell one glaring story….he is unlucky. If Johnston can start converting more of his chances, he could be the x-factor in his first-ever Western Conference Finals.
Logan Stankoven - DK $5.2K || FD $7.5K
Opponent - Dallas Stars
There is a chance that Logan Stankoven is one of the prime candidates to be bumped down into the bottom six if teammate and center Rope Hintz ultimately returns. In Stankoven’s most recent five playoff outings, he has three goals, one assist, seven shots, and six blocked shots. Due to his increase in production, it could prove hard to figure out the right lineup, leaving a chance that the center/winger hybrid remains in the top six. Nevertheless, his minimal salary offers plenty of versatility in lineup building.
Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):
- Bouchard (DK $8.8K || FD $12K)
- Heiskanen (DK $8.2K || FD $13.5K)
