NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 12/6/22
The wild outcomes continue to flood each slate leading up to the holiday roster freeze. As we approach Christmas, teams will be upset and many will use their current success and failure as a measuring point for their next steps after the freeze is over. This includes roster moves up to the hour prior to puck drop if the player is close enough and it requires Daily Fantasy Players to be more mindful of last-minute news. Tonight we will be back with a large 9-game slate with a few prime matchups and multiple toss-ups. There will be two teams playing on a back-to-back: St Louis and Montreal. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: New Jersey with 4.5, Pittsburgh with 4.2 and Kraken with 4.1 goals. I will do my best in guiding you through this nine-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

NHL DFS Goalies
Ilya Sorokin- DK $8K || FD $8.5K
Opponent - St Louis Blues
Sorokin will have a plus matchup tonight against the Blues who are playing the back-half of their back-to-back. Last night the Blues got rocked 6-4 by the New York Rangers in a game that the Blues were leading. The Rangers’ defense is nothing compared to the Islanders, conceding a plethora of scoring chances against as of late. The Islanders' defense is not a brick wall by any means either, but they will do a much better job at mitigating scoring chances against Sorokin. The netminder also continues to stand on his head, coming in as the third-best goalie in the league in Goals Saved Above Expected Per 60 – 0.967 – when starting 5 or more games. There are not many better spots tonight to target for a goalie.
Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Vasilevskiy (DK $8.2K || FD $7.7K), Hellebuyck (DK $7.5K || FD $8.7K)
NHL DFS Centers
Matty Beniers-DK $5K || FD $7.1K
Opponent - Montreal Canadiens
I am unsure if there is any stopping the center right now. Beniers is in incredible form and despite not scoring when he made the article last Saturday, he still managed to put up 5 shots and 2 blocked shots in 16 minutes of ice time. As I said then and will continue to reiterate now, Seattle’s second line is their scoring punch right now and it carries the bulk of the offense. In Beniers last five games, he has 4 goals, 3 assists, 16 shots and 4 blocked shots. Montreal is in the bottom 10 of the league in Shots Against Per 60 – 32.46 –, Scoring Chances Against Per 60 – 33.09 – and Goals Against Per 60 – 3.55 – and they just put together a lackluster performance at best, losing 7-6 to the Canucks last night after leading 4-0.
Evgeni Malkin- DK $5.9K || FD $7.6K
Opponent - Columbus Blue Jackets
It remains to be seen if Malkin will truly play tonight after sitting out yesterday’s practice with an illness. However, if he does play, he will be in a very good matchup with the Blue Jackets. Teammate and top-line center Sidney Crosby could very well miss the game – also missed practice with illness – and if so that will elevate Malkin to the top-line for the night. However, we prefer him on the second-line playing against the more inexperienced players. After not putting up any points for three straight games, Malkin is now on a 2-game point streak with 4 assists and 9 shots. The Jackets are the second-worst in Shots Against Per 60 – 35.91 –, the seventh-worst in Scoring Chances Against Per 60 – 32.62 – and the second-worst in Goals Against Per 60 – 3.92 –.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Hughes (DK $7.6K || FD $9.6K), Nelson (DK $6.3K || FD $8K)
NHL DFS Wings
Teuvo Teravainen- DK $3.6K || FD $4.4K
Opponent - Anaheim Ducks
Teuvo is back and he unfortunately has been thrown on the second-line – hopefully for the time being –. The winger is known for his two-way play and scoring punch, something that is desperately needed for Carolina’s second-line. He did not have a stellar night by any means in his season debut, however, he has just come off an injury and it may take a few games to get acclimated. Luckily, he will have an easy matchup against the Ducks who rank dead last in Shots Against Per 60 – 37.18 –, Scoring Chances Against Per 60 – 35.6 – and Goals Against Per 60 – 4.11 –.
Kyle Connor- DK $7.7K || FD $8.2K
Opponent - Florida Panthers
Despite not shooting enough as of late, Connor is still a prime option at winger tonight. He is averaging just over 2 shots per game over his last five games with 2 goals and 5 assists. Many would have thought that when Connor got paired with Luc-Dubois, the former would be the primary shooter, however, it looks to be the opposite. Nevertheless, they have formed a formidable duo and one that should thrive against any line that Florida throws at them tonight.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Rust (DK $4.6K || FD $5.5K), Mercer (DK $4.1K || FD $5.8K)
NHL DFS Defensemen
Jeff Petry- DK $5.1K || FD $5.7K
Opponent - Columbus Blue Jackets
Whether you like to pay down or not, it is going to be mighty hard to pass on the new Penguins power-play quarterback. Petry has taken over for Letang – had his second stroke – on all fronts. In the three games since Petry was elevated in the lineup, he has 2 assists, 4 shots and 5 blocked shots. Petry is a solid peripheral player and with the extra boost in ice time and power-play role, it makes Petry a must-play against a poor Blue Jackets lineup.
Rasmus Sandin- DK $2.8K || FD $3.9K
Opponent - Detroit Red Wings
I am still trying to figure out why Sandin’s salary is so low. The defender has taken over the quarterback role on the top power-play for the Maple Leafs, giving him plenty of time with the likes of Austin Matthews, John Tavares and more. Not only that, but he has 8 shots and 9 blocked shots over his last five games. Whether he can get on the board or not, his peripherals will generate enough value.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Burns (DK $6.3K || FD $6.9K), Dunn (DK $4.5K || FD $6.1K)
