NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 1/9/23
We have a busy Monday with four games. Several matchups will be intriguing to follow throughout the night. I will try to navigate you through a light Monday, which starts at 7:00 PM EST.
NHL DFS Goalies
Pheonix Copley- DK $7.9K | FD $8.3K
Opponent - Edmonton Oilers
Copley would be a great choice between the pipes against Edmonton should he get the start Monday. Obviously, he has to face off against the offensively gifted Oilers. Still, he's picked up wins against excellent teams in four of his last five starts beating Vegas twice, Dallas, and Colorado. In 12 contests, Copley has shown loads of confidence playing against only three teams with losing records. He's produced a 10-2-0 record for the Kings.
Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Martin Jones (DK $8.2K | FD $7.0K), Ukk0-Pekka Luukkonen (DK $8.3K | FD $8.0K)
NHL DFS Centers
Tage Thompson -DK $9.2K | FD $10.4K
Opponent - Philadelphia Flyers
It's been quite the campaign for Sabres centerman Tage Thompson. He has ten goals and five helpers in the last ten contests. Buffalo has a high-powered offense led by Thompson. The 25-year-old and his Sabres teammates should be able to take advantage of Philadelphia in their defensive zone as they give up a ton of high-danger scoring chances.
Tim Stutzle -DK $6.4K | FD $8.0K
Opponent - Nashville Predators
Stutzle is a steal at the center position on Monday. His salary is much cheaper for both DraftKings and FanDuel than McDavid, Thompson, and Draisaitl, the top three centermen available. In the Senator's last outing on January 7th against Seattle, the 20-year-old netted a hat trick an assist, and five shots on goal. He's been on fire and leads the NHL in points with six goals and two assists in the last three games. Ottawa has the third-best power play in the league at 28.1 percent. Stutzle is slotted between Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson on the team's first power-play unit. This could be an excellent opportunity for a Senator's stack, as the Predators have an average penalty kill at 79.4 percent.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Connor McDavid (DK $9.5K | FD $10.6K), Leon Draisaitl (DK $8.0K| FD $10.2K)
NHL DFS Wings
Brady Tkachuk -DK $7.9K | FD $8.3K
Opponent - Nashville Predators
Ottawa Senators winger Brady Tkachuk has two goals and three assists in the last five games. His goal production has been a bit low lately; however, he leads the Senators in shots on goal with 169. He has also provided the Senators a physical presence all season long with 108 hits. Tkachuk is playing alongside Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson. The three players combined have a total of 30 points in the last ten contests. They will be a tricky line to contain for Nashville.
Alex Tuch -DK $6.6K| FD $8.2K
Opponent - Philadelphia Flyers
Philadelphia ranks eighth worst in the NHL in giving up 920 scoring chances. Alex Tuch and the Sabres could take full advantage of their offensive opportunities against the Flyers as Buffalo leads the NHL in goals scored with 148. Tuch is a cheaper option at wing, at least in DraftKings contests. His play in the last ten games has been impressive, logging five goals and ten assists. He should be able to get on the scoresheet against the Flyers as he has the luxury of playing with Tage Thompson, one of the top-scoring centerman in the league.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Zach Hyman (DK $7.1K | FD $8.6K), Travis Konecny (DK $7.8K| FD $9.5K)
NHL DFS Defensemen
Roman Josi- DK $8.9 | FD $8.5K
Opponent - Ottawa Senators
Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi has recorded three markers, five assists, and 36 shots in the last ten contests. In addition, Josi has tallied five of 23 Predators goals scored on the power play this season. He leads NHL defensemen in shots taken with 161 and is always an impactful player in DFS.
Vince Dunn- DK $4.4K | FD $5.5K
Opponent - Montreal Canadiens
A great value pick for Monday is Seattle defenseman, Vince Dunn. The 26-year-old netted a goal on three shots, tallied an assist, was a plus-3, recorded three hits, and blocked two shots in Saturday's 8-4 win over Ottawa. He's had a phenomenal ten-game stretch collecting ten points. Additionally, Dunn is on the point of the Kraken's first power play unit. Should Seattle get some power play time Monday, Dunn could quickly produce points for DFS managers as Montreal's penalty kill ranks 24th at 76.61 percent.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Tony DeAngelo (DK $6.0K | FD $6.4K), Rasmus Dahlin (DK $7.3K | FD $8.8K)
