NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 1/18/22
We are back with our loaded Tuesday slate after MLK Day yesterday. The value pool continues to shrink more and more with each day and it makes it harder to stack all of the studs. However, we will continue to navigate this wonderful sport on ice with eight games starting at 7 p.m. EST with many teams in prime matchups.
We will have six teams on back-to-backs: Buffalo, Montreal, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Islanders and Nashville. The Canadiens enter with the league's worst goals against (3.65) hosting the Stars, while the Panthers will look to douse the Flames with their league’s second-best goals for (4.07).
DISCLOSURE: The slate may not be the same at puck drop as it is during the writeup due to COVID-19. Make sure to monitor the news feed and play at your own risk.
NHL DFS Goalies
Jake Oettinger - DK $8.4K || FD $7.7K
Opponent - Montreal Canadiens
This could not be any closer to the lock of the slate. The Canadiens just got dropped 5-2 by the Coyotes and now they have to play a much stingier Stars defense. Dallas may not be one of the hottest offenses in the league, but they do have one of the better young netminders in the league. Oettinger will have every chance to shut out the putrid 2.06 goals for per game Canadiens.
Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Vasilevskiy(DK $8.2K || FD $8.4K), Varlamov(DK $7.8K || FD $7.8K), Bobrovsky(DK $7.7K || FD $8.3K), Hellebuyck(DK $7.3K || FD $7.4K)
NHL DFS Centers
Bo Horvat - DK $4.5K || FD $6.4K
Opponent - Nashville Predators
Horvat could not be having any worse of a year this season, however, he is not the only Canuck to be doing so. New bench boss Boudreau has been running different combinations to unlock player potentials and he seems to have not only gotten Horvat’s right, but also his new linemate Elias Pettersson. In the two matches for the new combination, Horvat has a 2-1-3 line, 7.0 shots and 2.0 blocked shots.
Sam Bennett - DK $5.7K || FD $6.7K
Opponent - Calgary Flames
Bennett who is on absolute fire gets to return to where it all started. The second-line pivot has a 6-3-9 line with 21.0 shots over his last five appearances. Calgary has struggled for any sort of success and consistency outside of its top-line. This will provide every chance to Bennett and company to continue their elite production.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Hintz(DK $7.2K || FD $7.1K), Barzal(DK $6.4K || FD $6.6K), Norris(DK $5.9K || FD $7.3K), Miller(DK $5.5K || FD $7.4K), Cirelli(DK $4.1K || FD $5.7K)
NHL DFS Wings
Aliaksei Protas - DK $2.5K || FD $3.4K
Opponent - Winnipeg Jets
Typically when you see the Capitals being highlighted in the winger position, one would instantly think Ovechkin. However, we are going to highlight his new linemate rookie Protas. The young forward has not been too productive to start his campaign in the NHL, however, he has the chance once more playing with Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov. All that is needed is a shot or two and a slight bounce of the puck for the winger to hit value.
Jacob Peterson - DK $2.5K || FD $3.8K
Opponent - Montreal Canadiens
Peterson is being granted a big chance with Jason Robertson out currently. Peterson now slides into the left-wing position on a line with Rupert Hintz and Joe Pavelski. Peterson has played in the bottom-six for the majority of the season so far, granting him very little time to play with more “skilled” players. For the bottom of the salary range, this is the perfect punt play to fit in the higher salaried players on the slate against a bottom of the league Canadiens defense.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Connor(DK $7.7K || FD $9.2K), Pavelski(DK $7.2K || FD $7.3K), Forsberg(DK $6.5K || FD $8.3K), Stamkos(DK $6.3K || FD $8.5K) Lee(DK $5.3K || FD $5.3K), Pettersson(DK $4.7K || FD $5K), Gurianov(DK $3.7K || FD $4.7K)
NHL DFS Defensemen
Dimitry Orlov - DK $4K || FD $4K
Opponent - Winnipeg Jets
Teammate John Carlson is out with COVID-19 and Orlov will now step into his role on the power-play. The veteran defender is not shy about stepping into Carlson’s role as he has done it before. Luckily, news came out before DraftKings could increase Orlov’s salary. As long as he can continue taking shots and blocking shots, he should easily hit value.
Roman Josi - DK $8.2K || FD $7.6K
Opponent - Vancouver Canucks
Josi leads the slate’s defenders by a $1.3K salary gap and there is a reason for it. Over the last 10 appearances, Josi has only not hit double-digit fantasy points on DraftKings once. That is an impressive feat. Over his last five appearances, he has a 2-7-9 line with 25.0 shots and 11.0 blocked shots. As long as he continues to produce elite numbers he will undoubtedly hit value.
Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Ekblad(DK $6.3K || FD $7.4K), Dobson(DK $5.6K || FD $5.6K), Suter(DK $5.6K || FD $4.4K), Chiarot(DK $4.3K || FD $4.4K), Pesce(DK $3.9K || FD $4.9K), Salo(DK $2.5K || FD $3.6K)
