If you have needed a tight end at any point during the season, Atlanta Falcons’ Jacob Tamme has been a solid option. He has been flying under the radar, but Tamme has put up solid numbers wee k in and week out.
Tamme is quarterback Matt Ryan’s No. 3 option behind Julio Jones and Devonta Freeman, and has earned his quarterback’s trust throughout the season. After being limited earlier this week with a back injury, Tamme was listed as a full participant in practice on Thursday.
Tamme has hauled in 51 passes thus far this season for 567 yards. Unfortunately, he is really only valuable in PPR leagues because he has only scored one touchdown all season long. However, in PPR leagues he makes for a solid flex play or a TE2. There are far worse options at tight end than Tamme.
One of those worse options is New England Patriots backup tight end Scott Chandler. Chandler was supposed to step up in a big way with Rob Gronkowski dealing with an injury, but it never really happened.
The 30-year-old former Buffalo Bills tight end has 23 receptions this season for 259 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Tom Brady looks in his direction in the red zone, but that’s about it.
Chandler was listed as a limited participant on Thursday with a knee injury. However, it sounds like he should be able to suit up on Sunday when the Patriots take on the Tennessee Titans.
Chandler is a touchdown dependent option, which doesn’t make him worth starting, especially in the fantasy football playoffs.
In other tight end news, Pittsburgh Steelers’ Heath Miller has been one of the most consistent and reliable players at his position for the past several years and 2015 has been no different. As long as Ben Roethlisberger is in the lineup, Miller is a fringe TE1.
Roethlisberger has developed a strong bond with Miller on the football field over the years. When Big Ben is in a bind, he frequently looks Miller’s way to help him out. With the Steelers going up against the Broncos this week, I expect Roethlisberger to seek out Miller quite frequently.
Through 12 games Miller has 49 receptions for 456 yards and one touchdown. Although he was limited in practice earlier in the week with a rib injury, Miller was a full participant in practice on Thursday. He’ll be ready to go on Sunday.
