The Cut List (Week 7): Players To Consider Cutting Bait On

I know it's hard, but it's getting to the point that some of those early season investments are just not generating returns. The name value makes it hard to kick those guys to the curb, but holding onto them in the hopes of a turnaround can hurt your chances at a championship.

Here is a list of some guys with whom you shouldn't waste your time, as we head into Week 7 of the fantasy baseball season.

Editor’s Note: RotoBaller’s fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups list is updated every single day. Our awesome writers bring you analysis on hot or emerging starting pitchers, and also all other fantasy positions. Week 7 Players to Consider Cutting

1)  Carlos Gomez (OF, HOU)

CarGo Jr. has been more like dead weight this season. He's hitting below the Mendoza Line, he hasn't homered, and he's just been frustrating to own. Gomez looks totally lost at the plate and whiffs more than kids at a piñata party. Unless you're in a 16+ team league, it's time to unload this CarGo.

2) Adam Wainwright (SP, STL)

More like Wainwrong am I right? It's a shame though because Waino was once one of the best pitchers in the league. However, his stuff doesn't look the same after all the injuries he's suffered. His ERA and WHIP sit at an ugly 6.80 and 1.60, respectively. His fastball is consistently under 90 mph, and his control isn't what it once was. He somehow has three wins this season, but he's EXTREMELY droppable right now.

3) Luis Severino (SP, NYY)

Severino was actually looking like he could be the ace of the staff this season. However, the young righty has not had good command or control. His ERA is a lofty 7.49, and his WHIP is 1.69. Not good. Factor in that he hasn't had more than five strikeouts in any game except for one, and it's easy to see he doesn't deserve to be rostered at the moment. If you have a DL spot available, go ahead and stash him. If not, you can cut him safely.

4) Justin Upton (OF, DET)

Upton always has stud potential, but jeez has he been bad. It's gotten to the point that the Tigers turned to their whifftastic minor league prospect Steven Moya to try and get some production. Those in shallower leagues and redrafts can cut bait and not worry too much. He's hitting under .220, with only two homers. He is very streaky, and could turn it around. However, that's completely unpredictable. Only hang on in deep leagues.

Hot Seat

So these are some guys you shouldn't cut just yet, but who would be the first to go on most rosters if you need to add someone else.

1) Albert Pujols (1B, LAA)

The Machine needs a tune-up. He may have hit 40 bombs last season, and has seven already this season, but the average is really hurting you in most cases. The Angels are a bad team right now, so it's not like Pujols has much protection in the lineup either. He's worth hanging onto a bit longer, but he needs to get himself going again or he's no better than a guy like Khris Davis, who can just be streamed as needed.

2) Jose Berrios (SP, MIN)

There's no doubt that Berrios is a future stud, but right now he might not be helping teams much. He can rack up strikeouts, but he will walk a fair share of batters and get himself into trouble. He's droppable in redrafts and 10 team or smaller leagues. I would still give someone with Berrios' level of upside another start or two to prove himself.
