The Cut List - Players on the Chopping Block (Week 16)

NFL players to consider cutting, dropping or benching for Week 16 of the 2017 season. Jason's list of fantasy football busts, injuries, and overrated players.

As the season wears on, this list will feature more name brand players that you may have trouble letting go. Peyton Manning owners remember all too well how a big name can derail an entire season if you refuse to accept that he simply no longer has value. The names on this list no longer have fantasy value.

Each week from now until the end of the season, I’ll be offering my thoughts on players who don’t deserve to keep a roster spot on your fantasy football teams. Below are my Week 16 cuts and drops for fantasy football.

Let's get to it.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Players to Consider Dropping or Replacing

Kirk Cousins (QB, WAS)

Kirk Cousins isn't some time of terrible player that you need to drop. However, you're not starting him this week against Denver. This is week 16. If you're not starting someone this week, you don't need to roster that player. For what it's worth, Cousins hasn't been all the good the past four weeks anyway.

Antonio Brown (WR, PIT)

I hate when players end up here because of injury. Antonio Brown suffered a partially torn calf last week and will miss the rest of 2017. It's a crushing blow coming at the worst possible time as it likely cost many fantasy owners their semifinal matchups and the ones who survived will have to try and win a title without the best WR in football.

Josh Doctson (WR, WAS)

Similar to his QB listed above, there is no way you are starting Josh Doctson against Aqib Talib and Chris Harris. Doctson hasn't really justified his ownership percentage all season, posting just three double digit weeks...barely. He won't be useful in week 16 so he can be dropped across the board.

Ameer Abdullah (RB, DET)

Somehow a running back with fumbling issues that has proven time and time again to be incapable of performing at the NFL level is owned in the vast majority of leagues. Why? Theo Riddick started last week and Tion Green was the next man in. Abdullah was barely on the field, playing just eight snaps. He's fallen to third on the depth chart because the Lions have figured out that he isn't good at football. It is time for fantasy owners to do the same. Cut him now and then don't draft him ever again.

Doug Martin (RB, TB)

Doug Martin used to be good at football. In 2017, he's been mostly terrible and was a healthy scratch on Monday night. It was reported that he violated a team rule, but regardless, nothing has gone right for Martin this season. You can't possibly trust him in week 16 and it's not like you'd be doing your opponent's any favors by dropping him. If someone wants to pick him up and start him against you, by all means.
