Fantasy Baseball Impact Of The Cincinnati Reds Placing Relief Pitcher Tejay Antone On The 15-Day Injured List
According to a tweet from the Cincinnati Reds' official X account on Thursday morning, the club has placed right-handed reliever Tejay Antone on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow discomfort.
The move was made as part of a series of transactions, per the tweet, that also included right-hander Ben Lively being activated from the COVID-19 injured list and right-hander Carson Spiers having his contract selected. Additionally, fellow pitcher Connor Phillips was returned to Triple-A Louisville after serving as a replacement player.
Antone appeared in five games (including one start) for the Reds this year, logging seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work while scattering three hits, two walks, and an earned run allowed. He also logged a hold in the process and didn’t allow a home run.
With the right-hander currently on the injured list, Cincinnati seems likely to continue to go with fellow right-handed relievers Lucas Sims, Buck Farmer, Fernando Cruz, and Ian Gibaut -- as well as left-hander Sam Moll -- as prominent set-up options ahead of closer Alexis Diaz.
Given his strikeout upside -- Antone has struck out 32.4% of the batters he’s faced in 74.2 MLB innings and owns an 11.33 strikeouts per nine innings rate in his big-league career -- the 29-year-old is worth holding onto for fantasy managers with injured list spots available in deeper leagues where holds are part of the scoring system.
