With the way St. Louis Rams running back Todd Gurley has been performing over the course of the season, there have been rumblings as to whether he has now taken the throne of the top running back in the NFL. Well, yesterday Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson delayed those talks, if only for a week, with a monster performance against the Oakland Raiders in a 30-14 victory.
AP ran the ball 26 times for a whopping 203 yards, including a huge 80-yard touchdown run to ice the game in the fourth quarter, leading Minnesota to victory. Peterson’s rushing performance was the best from any running back this season, and resulted in his sixth 200-plus yard game, tying him with O.J. Simpson for the most 200-yard games by any player in NFL history. After missing all but one game in 2014 as a result of landing on the commissioner’s exempt list, Peterson has had a renaissance season in Minnesota this year. He has been the focus of Minnesota’s offense this season, accounting for 37.1 percent of the team’s total yards from scrimmage. Peterson continues to show why many consider him to be one of the best running backs in NFL history. He is an every week RB1 in any format.
Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had a normal Teddy Bridgewater game on Sunday, throwing the ball just 20 times for 14 completions, a touchdown, and no interceptions. It may be time to call Bridgewater the “Black Alex Smith” because low-floor fantasy performances like these have come to be the norm for the second-year quarterback. He takes little risks through the air and on the ground, which results in extremely lackluster fantasy performances. The Vikings have won five straight games, are 7-2, and are now in sole possession in first place in the NFC North for the first time in a long time, so I don’t think Vikings fans have any issue with Bridgewater’s game. But if you are a fantasy owner, stay away from Bridgewater at all costs.
