Taylor Heinicke (QB, WAS) - Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Somehow, Heinicke is making us forget about Ryan Fitzpatrick--or at the very least not missing the vet--so far this season. Forced into a starting role after Fitzpatrick got injured in Week 1, Heinicke took the reins of the Washington Footies and never looked back. Obviously, things weren't pretty back in the first week of the year as he could only play 70% of the team snaps and throw 15 passes back then, but in the next three games, he's been an absolute stud.

Heinicke is racking up QB1 finishing weekly, it's borderline insane and totally unexpected. The quarterback has finished the past three games (all of them starting) as the QB11, QB8, and QB4 respectively while improving his fantasy scores on a per-game basis going from 21.0 in W2 to 23.4 in W3 and lastly 27.9 this past W4 Sunday. This latest outing was fantastic to watch unfold, as Heinicke threw for 3 TDs in a 23-of-33 performance in which he reached 290 passing yards and added 43 more on the ground on just 5 carries.

The 8 TDs on the year are tied for the 10th-most among quarterbacks, and adding his other touchdown rushing Heinicke is just one score short of hitting double-digit total touchdowns on the season. Not bad for a backup, am I right? Heinicke's passing volume could be higher, can't lie about that (he's attempted 118 passes, 29 per game) but he's completing a nice 69% of them falling just 40 yards shy of 1,000 on the year. Not a weekly starter for those in shallow formats, but definitely a great streamer and surefire starter in deeper leagues. Fitz is still ways away from a comeback, so the value and potential ROI is definitely there with Heinicke.
