Taylor Heinicke (QB, WAS) - Fantasy Football Week 4 Waiver Wire Pickups

ANALYSIS: Second week of the Taylor Heinicke era in Washington, and second game in which the forced-started passed the test rather nicely. I don't think anyone in the world is happy with Ryan Fitzpatrick missing time as he brings the fireworks weekly, but the truth is that Heinicke has played good enough (fantasy) football for us to like him as a deep-league target with upside for more if he can keep his current form up for longer.

While playing "only" 39 snaps in W1 backing up Fitz, Heinicke started W2 and W3 finishing in the QB1 realm both times. That's not precisely a joke, folks. We probably have to acknowledge that Heinicke's W2 game was a bit of an outlier (34-of-46 completed passes, 336 yards, 2 TD, only 1 INT) in terms of volume and that his W3 production was very efficient putting up a season-high 23.4 FP against Buffalo with a 14-completion, 212-yard, 2-touchdown and 2-interception game... in which the QB also rushed for a bonus score.

To my eyes, it's hard to see Heinicke either throwing 46 passes once more (W2) nor getting 23+ FP on a 14-212-2-2 line with a rushing TD on top of that (W3). Those outings look outliers at opposite ends of the fantasy-QB spectrum. Even then, though, Heinicke should have enough talent to close the year as a weekly QB2 with upside for low-end QB1 finishes. It's not hard to project some sort of 20-15-200-1 (against an interception) baseline for Heinicke going forward with the odd rushing touchdown coming here and there. Good option for those in deep formats, and a must-roster for fantasy GMs playing in 2QB/Superflex leagues.
