Todd Gurley looks like he deserved the hype that moved him up fantasy draft boards, but he's not the only Ram breaking out this season. Tavon Austin is having the best year of his career, and has the explosive upside that he should be owned in almost every league.
Austin has elite speed and elusiveness that has excited the Rams and fantasy players for several years now. This year it looks like the Rams are figuring out how to get him the ball in space, because Austin is on pace for career highs in catches, yards and TDs. Austin has three TD catches, a TD run and a punt return TD through six games. Austin has managed to be a viable fantasy option in every game this season because of this mix of production.
The Rams passing attack led by Nick Foles has sputtered so far this year, but they will continue to find ways to get the ball into Austin’s hands because he can turn any play into a TD. Austin leads the Rams in red zone targets and should continue to do so. With Gurley establishing himself as a premier running back, more play-action passes should open up for Austin.
The Rams have a couple of favorable matchups coming up, starting this week against the struggling 49ers. If he’s available in your league, Austin is a good option if you’re in need of a flex or WR2 this week.
