ANALYSIS: Houston Astros prospect Spencer Arrighetti made his major league debut on Wednesday against the red-hot Kansas City Royals. 

The No. 3 prospect in the Houston pipeline struggled as he threw only three innings and surrendered seven earned runs, seven hits, and three walks. He struck out three.

Arrighetti pitched two shutout innings to open the game. He gave up only one walk to Vinnie Pasquantino and a single to Nelson Velazquez. During these innings, he also struck out Maikel Garcia and Bobby Witt Jr.

He ran into trouble in the third as he surrendered a leadoff single to Kyle Isbel, who then swiped second base. After getting Garcia out for the first out of the inning, he allowed seven consecutive baserunners, which put the game out of reach.

It is essential to avoid overreacting to his first career start. The 24-year-old has performed well in the minors and is still worth a look in deeper redraft leagues.

Arrighetti has made two starts this season for the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys and has a 2.25 ERA and 1.68 WHIP. He has struck out 10 batters in 8 ⅓ innings. However, his control, which was a significant issue last night, was also prevalent in the minor leagues as he offered seven free passes across those two starts.

While Arrighetti's control was a significant issue in his debut, and he has been in the minor leagues, his potential as a valuable starting pitcher in deeper formats is not in question. With some fine-tuning, he can regain his confidence and deliver impressive performances, giving fantasy managers confidence in his future.
