Sony Michel (RB, NE) - Week 14 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues

ROSTERED: 15% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: Odds were Damien Harris would retain his RB1 role in the Patriots backfield with Sony Michel back this Sunday, and the latter sharing snaps and touches with James White on the ground. Turns out we were right in the first statement, but very wrong about the second one. While Sony Michel got to carry the ball 10 times and caught a pass, White was absolutely faded by the Pats, getting just 4 targets and no rushing attempts at all.

Michel is lowly-rostered in Yahoo leagues because 1) he's been injured for a while and just came back in W13; 2) he's playing under Cam Newton, a rushing QB; and 3) he's playing also behind an RB1 in Damien Harris (16 rush attempts in W13 for a team-leading 80 yards). But it's been now two games in the last four in which White hasn't been given a single rushing look, and he has yet to top five carries in a single match through the season, which bodes well for Michel ROS.

Michel (and Harris, for this matter) won't be getting targets from Newton, as that's not his mojo. White might still hold onto those duties going forward, but everything looks like a 1:2 split between Michel and Harris on the ground game. Harris also fumbled a ball this past weekend, which might take some touches from him in upcoming games.

The Pats face two top-11 defenses against fantasy rushers in the next two weeks, but then have a sweet matchup against 22nd-best Buffalo in W16 (most leagues' championship Week). If you can afford to stash Michel, he might be a great FLEX play in W16. If you can't, I'd say you can safely pass on him unless you're part of a super-deep league.
