If all you did was glance at the box score of the Dallas Cowboys vs. New Orleans Saints game, you may be thinking that C.J. Spiller is a must-start running back going forward, but slow down a bit. Sure, Spiller had over 100 total yards and a touchdown, which sounds great until you look into the details. Spiller really only had one great play, which happened to be an 80-yard touchdown reception to clinch victory in overtime.
Spiller only received two carries out of the backfield, and only saw five targets in the passing game. Take away the 80-yard touchdown reception and Spiller only had four catches for 19 yards. All of a sudden is stats don't sound so impressive, right?
The former Buffalo Bills running back actually only played 21 of 73 offensive snaps for the Saints on Sunday. And even though his game-winning reception will likely earn him some more playing time, he remains a far too risky option to start in your fantasy football leagues unless you are extremely desperate. Spiller has always been a home-run threat, but consistency has never been his strong-suit.
Ask yourself: Would you be surprised if he only scored two fantasy points next week?
