Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier had a strong rookie season. Surprisingly, the fifth-round draft pick ran for over 1,000 yards.
However, in 2023, the Falcons drafted highly-touted University of Texas RB Bijan Robinson with the No. 8 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Does Allgeier still hold fantasy value? Is he still getting carries even with the team having spent such draft capital on Robinson? Let's look at Tyler Allgeier's fantasy standing going into a Week 3 matchup against the Lions.

What Did Tyler Allgeier Do In Weeks 1 And 2?
Tyler Allgeier ran for 75 yards on 15 carries in Week 1 and scored two touchdowns, propelling him to an RB4 finish on the week and fantasy managers were excited. Some Robinson drafters were outraged. But if we've learned anything from the Falcons, it is that they like to run the ball. There was enough volume to go around for both of them.
Coaches often ease rookies into a larger role over a couple of weeks. That was the case in Atlanta in Week 2. Robinson got more touches than Allgeier in Week 2, and Allgeier made no catches. Still, Allgeier got 16 rushing attempts in Week 2, one more than he had received in Week 1.
If he had been more efficient, he would have been able to have a top 24 RB finish. Instead, he only gained 48 yards and finished as the RB49.
Tyler Allgeier Running Back Rankings Analysis
Robinson is the No. 3 RB in the latest RotoBaller staff rankings, and he is rising.
Allgeier ranks as the RB72 in this Week 3 matchup against the Detroit Lions. That's lower than he's finished in either of his first two weeks. It may depend on how many carries he gets and whether coach Arthur Smith decides to go with the hot hand or not.
Should I Start Tyler Allgeier In Week 3 Fantasy Football?
Ideally, you shouldn't have to start Tyler Allgeier at RB. He's the RB2, or, at best, the RB1b, in Atlanta. The Falcons run the ball more than almost any other team, so he will still get opportunities, but if you can start an RB1 in his place, you would be in better shape. Detroit is only allowing 3.6 yards per rushing attempt. That's fewer than most teams are allowing.
However, if your team is suffering from injuries, Allgeier could be a necessary start. If you play in a deep league, he might be a viable flex. Because of his boom-bust potential, Allgeier is a better option than other potential RB3/RB4 types. Whether you start Allgeier depends mostly on your team makeup.
