Is Clyde Edwards-Helaire Playing in Week 7?
Out of left field, news coming from Ian Rapoport ahead of Sunday's matchup between the 49ers and Chiefs that rookie running back Isiah Pacheco is expected to start over Clyde Edwards-Helaire:
It looks like, once and for all, Kansas City might be giving up (at least to an extent) on Clyde Edwards-Helaire as their RB1, opting instead of handing Isiah Pacheco the bulkier workload this weekend.
Should I Pickup Isiah Pacheco Off the Fantasy Football Waiver Wire?
If Pacheco is still available in your fantasy league, be sure to pick him up off the waiver wire asap.
All three of Jerick McKinnon, CEH, and Pacheco have appeared in all six games played by Kansas City through last Sunday with the former two in clear contention for the RB1 role: CEH has played 181 snaps to McKinnon's 172.
The production of the latter, though, has been horrific (0.21 PPR points per snap) compared to CEH (0.47) although Pacheco, on a much smaller role, has been nearly on par with Edwards-Helaire, putting up 0.40 PPR points per snap played.
Pacheco has only seen two targets through the season, so he's still a blank canvas and a sea of questions on that front. He caught both of them for nine yards, but we will have to wait and see what he can do on larger doses of targets to properly asses him.
When it comes to rushing the rock, though, Pacheco has racked up 149 yards on 31 carries for an average of 3.6 YPC compared to CEH's 59-256-4.2 line. CEH has two scores on the season to Pacheco's lone touchdown coming in Week 1 when he saw his largest workload of the season (12 carries).
Should I Start Isiah Pacheco for Fantasy Football In Week 7?
Pacheco has yet to appear in more than 17 total snaps in any game and to log more than a 23% snap rate, but judging by Raps' report, he will do so this Sunday against San Francisco.
There have been some flashes of talent in his game and a still-small sample of touches, but the upside is massive if he can put on a couple of solid outings and snatch the RB1 role from CEH.
Pacheco can be considered an RB2/FLEX play for Week 7, while CEH should be benched or a desperation bye-week flex play at most. We'll need to see how this situation shakes out, but it looks like a changing of the guard.
