How Did P.J. Walker Play In Week 8?
Walker completed 17 of his 22 passing attempts for 177 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He didn't add anything in the ground game, but the Panthers' offense looked as good as it has all year -- even without Christian McCaffrey. D.J. Moore had his best game of the season, catching seven of his 10 targets for 69 yards and a touchdown.
It was a promising game for the young quarterback, and since it was against a strong defense, Walker is trending as a possible fantasy football pickup.
Should I Pick Up P.J. Walker in Fantasy Football?
Since Walker's fantasy production was largely built on his two passing touchdowns, it's hard to get excited about his outlook moving forward. His 177 yards passing and zero yards rushing don't scream fantasy football value at quarterback.
Additionally, Carolina could look to move more valuable pieces of the team before the trade deadline. While Panthers' ownership and management won't flat-out say they're tanking, it's clear acquiring picks and building for the future are the top priorities.
Ultimately, it could take just one poor performance for Walker to be benched for Mayfield or Sam Darnold (ankle), who has been designated to return from injured reserve. Walker is a solid play in two-quarterback or Superflex leagues in a favorable matchup with the Falcons, but he can be left on waivers in other leagues.
