Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Khalil Shakir had a breakout performance in Week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and since everyone loves rookie upside, he's a hot name on the waiver wire heading into Week 6.
Shakir plays in the best passing game in the NFL led by Josh Allen, so his upside is strong any time he has a significant role. We've seen several Bills wide receivers produce fantasy-relevant weeks over the last two years when thrust into larger roles, and it was no different for Shakir in Week 5.
That said, is the Boise State product worth picking up in a crowded wide receiver room? Let's dive into it.

What Did Khalil Shakir Do Last Week?
The 22-year-old wideout caught three of his five targets for 75 yards and a touchdown in his first game with a significant role. Isaiah McKenzie (concussion) was ruled out, so Shakir took his place in the slot beside Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis.
Shakir posted just a 16.1 percent target share, but he saw just one fewer target than Gabriel Davis. Of course, he didn't have multiple splash-play touchdowns like Davis, but he was explosive in his own right, averaging 25 yards per reception.
Should I Pickup Khalil Shakir Off The Waiver Wire In Fantasy Football?
Since Shakir's production was dependent on McKenzie and Dawson Knox (foot) being inactive, he's not a great shallow league pickup since those guys are expected to return as soon as Week 6.
However, Shakir is one of the top "handcuff" wideouts since he's in an elite offense and flashed his ability when he got a chance. He's worth rostering over third options in poor passing games, simply because he has a huge upside if Diggs, Davis, or McKenzie have to miss any time. In deep leagues with plenty of bench spots, he could have late-value value as we inch toward the fantasy football playoffs.
For those in shallow leagues, continue to monitor injury updates for Knox and McKenzie, but there are probably more surefire pickups at wide receiver on waivers.
