Miami Dolphins running back Jeff Wilson Jr. was an undrafted free agent during the 2017 NFL Draft. Wilson had an impressive college career, totaling 561 rushing attempts for 3,204 yards and 32 touchdowns in four years at North Texas. He also had 70 receptions for 527 receiving yards and two touchdowns in college.
Unfortunately, the former Mean Green star didn’t have much impact early in his NFL career. However, Wilson had the best year of his career in 2020, totaling 126 rushing attempts for 600 yards and seven touchdowns with the San Francisco 49ers. He also had 13 receptions on 28 targets for 133 receiving yards and three touchdowns that season.
After five years with the team, the 49ers traded Wilson to the Miami Dolphins before last season’s trade deadline. The veteran running back has played well in Miami, totaling 89 rushing attempts for 415 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 4.7 yards per rushing attempt.

What Did Jeff Wilson Jr. Accomplish In Week 8?
Wilson started the 2023 season on injured reserve after getting hurt during the preseason. The former North Texas star missed the first six games because of the injury.
He had only one reception for four receiving yards and zero rushing attempts in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Yet, Wilson reportedly would see an increase in touchdowns against the New England Patriots in Week 8.
However, the veteran running back only had five rushing attempts for 23 yards and two receptions for 14 receiving yards in the win over the division rivals. While it was an increase in touches from the week before, Wilson only scored 4.7 half-point PPR fantasy points on Sunday.
Should I Pickup Jeff Wilson Jr.?
Many thought the veteran running back would have earned a role on offense that would make him fantasy-relevant by now. However, the former North Texas star has scored only 5.6 total fantasy points since being activated off the injured reserve list two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Wilson had only seven touches and 4.7 fantasy points in Week 8. By comparison, Salvon Ahmed had six touches and 3.7 fantasy points against the Patriots. More importantly, the Dolphins face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9 and then have their bye in Week 10.
After the bye week, De’Von Achane will get activated off the injured reserve list. With Raheem Mostert remaining the clear-cut starter with the rookie out, Wilson likely won’t see enough touches to warrant a spot on fantasy football rosters.
