Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers was a popular pick in fantasy football heading into the 2022 season. However, he was the RB67 heading into Week 13, scoring a whopping 3.9 fantasy points per game. Needless to say, he was dropped in the majority of fantasy leagues.
His Week 14 performance against the Seattle Seahawks places him at least close to the fantasy radar once again.
Is Akers worth picking up ahead of the fantasy football playoffs or was Week 14 just an outlier performance for the third-year running back?

What Did Cam Akers Do In Week 14?
Against the Seahawks, Akers rushed 17 times for 60 yards and two touches. He also caught one pass for zero yards, which never hurts in PPR leagues. It was far from an efficient rushing day at 3.5 yards per carry, but he was trusted in the red zone and ultimately delivered fantasy points -- which is all we care about as fantasy managers.
Kyren Williams saw just three rushing attempts, but it's worth noting Brandon Powell rushed three times and Tutu Atwell rushed four times. That said, Akers was clearly the primary rusher overall, played 78 percent of the Rams' offensive snaps, and even ran eight routes to Williams'' seven.
Since many fantasy enthusiasts were high on Akers even before he was drafted, there is going to be real fantasy intrigue after a promising day.
Should I Pickup Cam Akers Off the Waiver Wire in Fantasy Football?
Depending on how your running back position looks on your fantasy roster, Akers could be worth adding -- it's just important to roster him without sky-high expectations. Although there's a real chance for Akers to dominate touches in the Rams' backfield, Los Angeles has one of the worst offenses in the NFL. Seattle was is a great matchup for running back and Akers took advantage, but we can't expect this kind of production each week for the rest of the season.
Only the Houston Texans average fewer yards per game than the Rams (283.1) and only the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, and Houston Texans have scored fewer points per game (16.8). When you also consider Matthew Stafford (neck), Cooper Kupp (ankle), and Allen Robinson (foot) are likely all out for the season, things can get even uglier when it comes to season averages.
Akers is a fine desperation flex play or deep league RB2, but he has virtually no floor and a limited upside. If you're in a spot where you need any kind of running back production at all, that's when he's worth the pickup heading into Week 14 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
