The Week 1 battle between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Indianapolis Colts is on the horizon but it remains to be seen how often head coach Doug Pederson will use the Tank. The rookie Tank Bigsby is, after all, reinforcement for the platoon of Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne Jr., Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk, and Evan Engram.
The Jaguars are pretty significant road favorites (-5 at the time of this writing) and could rely on their rushing attack later in the skirmish, should the script dictate a blowout. Bigsby is second on the team's running back depth chart and impressed in the preseason to the point where analysts could see the former five-star recruit carry the load if needed.
Is all of it enough for fantasy managers to roster Bigbsy, or even start him in Week 1?
Should I Pick Up Tank Bigsby Off Of The Waiver Wire?
Bigbsy received all of the hype during training camp and the third-round pick out of Auburn should be on fantasy rosters across the board. If he was not selected in your draft or was dropped due to a manager navigating preseason injuries, adding the rookie is highly recommended.
Pederson has leaned toward a committee RB approach in the past. In his stints in Philadelphia and Jacksonville, a running back has only topped 13 carries per game once -- Miles Sanders in 2020 (13.7). Last year, Etienne was only given 12.9 attempts per contest. That mark ranked 20th in the league.
The ideal scenario for Bigsby, outside of an injury, is that he carves out a role similar to A.J. Dillon's workload for the Packers. If Etienne were to go down, something we've already seen in his short career, Bigsby is an insurance back that could turn into a league-winner.
Should I Start Tank Bigsby In Week 1?
It's fair to be excited about having Bigsby on your fantasy roster as the season opens but starting him this early in the season is less than ideal. *Knock on wood* but there have not been a lot of running back injuries to traverse thus far and there are ample starters out there to place in your lineup for Week 1.
Bigbsy is better suited as a low-end RB4 for his matchup against the Colts and can't be trusted in lineups until his workload is established or Etienne is forced to miss time.
