Talent can only take you so far in the National Football League. Most of the time, players need the right situation to blossom into the stars they were destined to be. There's a reason that Cleveland has cycled through quarterbacks faster than milk expires in your fridge.
Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. has speed, athleticism, and college production that shows his potential. Then, he was drafted in the second round by the Broncos and the hype machine lost a subwoofer. He was, at best, the fourth wide receiver on the depth chart behind Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and Tim Patrick.
Two of those names have taken themselves out of the Week 1 picture with injuries, bringing the buzz back to Mims' rookie campaign.

Should I Pick Up Marvin Mims Jr. Off Of The Waiver Wire?
Mims’ speed (4.38 40-yard dash) gives head coach Sean Payton and quarterback Russell Wilson a vertical threat that was missing from the offense in 2022. In three years of college ball at the University of Oklahoma, Mims averaged 19.5 yards per reception on 123 catches. Tim Patrick (Achilles) is out for the season and Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) is very questionable to suit up when the season begins, opening a starting spot across from Courtland Sutton.
If you believe in the revitalization of the Broncos' offense under coach Payton, Mims is definitely worth a roster spot on your fantasy squad. Payton and GM George Paton used the limited draft capital they owned (due to the Russell Wilson trade) to trade up and select Mims. If Mims plays well to start the season, it will be hard for the new regime to keep him off of the field when Jeudy returns.
Should I Start Marvin Mims Jr. In Week 1?
This is where the line gets drawn in the sand. Mims is worthy of a roster spot but there's no need to trot him out in your starting lineup this weekend, even against the soft Las Vegas pass defense. Higher-profile rookies Jordan Addison, Zay Flowers, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba were also not drafted to be immediate starters for managers in standard-sized redraft leagues. Trust the guys you drafted to start in Week 1, and if Mims pops off on your bench, be excited about his outlook for the rest of his rookie season.
