Max Strus Fantasy Basketball Outlook
After spending the past three seasons with the Miami Heat, forward Max Strus joined the Cleveland Cavaliers via a sign-and-trade back in July, agreeing to a four-year, $63 million deal with Cleveland. The deal also saw Cedi Osman and Lamar Stevens traded to the Spurs.
Strus made his Cavaliers debut on Wednesday night, playing 38 minutes of the team's win over the Brooklyn Nets. Strus was 9-for-17 from the floor, scoring 27 points in the contest. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and added two assists, one steal, and one block.
Last season, Strus averaged 11.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.2 blocks for Miami. He appeared in 80 games for the Heat, starting in 33 of them.
Is Max Strus A Good Fantasy Basketball Pickup?
Strus is a versatile player who can play both forward positions, which gives him an edge when it comes to finding minutes for this Cavaliers team. With Jarrett Allen sidelined on Wednesday, Strus got the start at the four, with Isaac Okoro at the three.
When Allen returns from his ankle injury, the team will need to shift either Strus or Okoro to the bench. Even if Strus ends up being the one moved, he should still see ample minutes off the bench of this Cavaliers team. He won't score 20-plus points every night, but Strus has a good shot at bettering his scoring average from last season. He has an even better chance of bettering his rebounding average.
Fantasy managers who need to fill a hole at forward should be targeting Strus off the waiver wire in this early part of the 2023-24 NBA season. He might not maintain value over the course of the season, but he can provide solid help for now.
