What Did Demario Douglas Do Last Week?
Demario Douglas, a rookie sixth-round pick out of Liberty, has been in the starting lineup for the Patriots for the past two games. He played a season-high 77% of the team's offensive snaps in Week 8 when New England took on the Miami Dolphins.
In that game, Douglas was targeted seven times, catching five passes for 25 yards. The rookie hasn't had more than 54 receiving yards in a game yet, but that could be changing.
Kendrick Bourne, who has averaged 50.8 receiving yards per game for New England this year, saw his season come to an abrupt end in Week 8 when he suffered a torn ACL. He's done for the season, opening up room for Douglas to potentially take over the No. 1 role.
Demario Douglas Waiver Wire Outlook for Week 9
While Demario Douglas should see an increased workload going forward, there's no guarantee that the rookie takes over the No. 1 role. JuJu Smith-Schuster has really struggled in his first year with the Patriots, but the veteran could see a massive uptick in playing time, cutting into growth in Douglas' game. Jalen Reagor also played 58% of snaps this past week, while DeVante Parker played 43%.
Still, the increased usage for Douglas recently indicates that he should be viewed as the No. 1 receiver for now. He likely won't command as big of a target share as Bourne, but he has WR4 upside. Fantasy managers who need depth at wide receiver should give Demario Douglas a look.
