Ah, to dream about a breakout season for a second-year, former first-round wide receiver. For fantasy managers thinking about Treylon Burks, that's all that it is right now; a dream.
The signing of DeAndre Hopkins late in the offseason certainly didn't help but Burks hasn't flashed his potential as he did in spurts during his rookie season. Burks' average depth of target (18.1 yards) profiles him as a receiver whose only skill is being a deep threat and his target rate (16%) leaves a lot to be desired.
Is the dream of a breakout season on hold or will it never come? And if it's not coming this season, is the Titans wide receiver worth rostering in fantasy football?

What Did Treylon Burks Do In Week 4?
The short answer: Nothing.
Treylon Burks was inactive for the Titans' annihilation of the Cincinnati Bengals last week. The former first-round pick is dealing with a left knee injury that caused him to miss the contest. Remember, Burks suffered an LCL sprain in the same knee during training camp, although head coach Mike Vrabel noted that this was not a reaggravation of the August ailment.
Burks is already missing practices this week, ahead of his Week 5 divisional matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
On the season, Burks only has six catches for 99 yards and no scores. In his most recent game (Week 3 against Cleveland), the second-year receiver tallied just one catch for five yards on six targets. He was on the field for 75% of the snaps. Prior to his absence, Burks shared the lead in snaps with Nick Westbrook-Ikhine among wide receivers in Tennessee.
Can I Drop Treylon Burks in Fantasy Football?
The Tennessee Titans' passing game is hard to trust, especially when they're playing on the road. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill looks competent in Nashville, but over the hill when the Titans are the away team.
Ryan Tannehill Games | Passing | Yards | Touchdowns | Interceptions | Result |
Week 1 (Away) | 16-34 | 198 | 0 | 3 | L, 15-16 |
Week 2 (Home) | 20-24 | 246 | 1 | 0 | W, 27-24 |
Week 3 (Away) | 13-25 | 104 | 0 | 0 | L, 3-27 |
Week 4 (Home) | 18-25 | 240 | 1 | 1 | W, 27-3 |
Four games isn't a major sample size, but it's a trend worth watching when making managerial decisions for your fantasy football team. The Titans are playing in Indianapolis this week. With or without Burks this week, it could be tough sledding, even with a plus matchup for wide receivers.
If you still believe Burks offers fantasy football value in 2023, you can drop him now and add him later when he returns from his injury. The odds of Burks playing, having a strong game in Week 5, and being a hot waiver wire commodity next week are very low. Number 16 should only be rostered in deeper leagues.
