Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. has been one of the more frustrating players in fantasy football. The star wide receiver was productive in 2023 with Gardner Minshew under center.
However, he has struggled this year. The former USC star is the WR53 for the season, averaging 7.1 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Pittman has averaged fewer fantasy points per game than his teammate Alec Pierce (7.9).
Is it time for fantasy players to put the veteran wide receiver on the waiver wire? Let’s dive into it.

Should I Drop Michael Pittman Jr.?
The Colts’ wide receiver core struggled with Anthony Richardson under center. While the second-year quarterback has massive upside, he has struggled to connect with his pass catchers, completing under 50% of his attempts this season. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Indianapolis switched from Richardson to Joe Flacco before Sunday night’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
Unfortunately, the quarterback switch didn’t help Pittman. The former USC star had one reception on four targets for 14 receiving yards and 1.9 fantasy points against the Vikings, setting season-lows in every category. He struggled despite ranking second among the team’s wide receivers in snaps played.
Colts WR snap counts tonight
Alec Pierce - 38
Michael Pittman Jr. - 33
Josh Downs - 20
Ashton Dulin - 9
AD Mitchell - 5Downs not in on 3rd down pass and 4th down target goes to Dulin

Pittman has scored single-digit fantasy points in three consecutive games, including 2.1 or less in back-to-back weeks. Fantasy players in 10 or 12-team leagues can drop the veteran wide receiver.
Who Can I Add Off The Waiver Wire?
While the New England Patriots offense is far from elite, they have played better with Drake Maye under center. DeMario Douglas has been the best wide receiver on the team, with the rookie quarterback starting, totaling nine targets in the two contests both players started and finished this season. Furthermore, he has made several impressive plays.

Douglas is rostered in only 22% of Yahoo leagues. Yet, he is one of my top waiver wire targets this week. The second-year pro should continue to see a significant target share with Maye under center.
