The New England Patriots have been searching for an answer at quarterback since Tom Brady left. In 2021, the team used a first-round pick on Alabama's Mac Jones to see if he could fill the position.
Jones had some good moments as a rookie, but his production has dropped ever since. His 2023 season has featured a lot of ups and downs.
Many fantasy managers have Mac Jones on their roster right now. Should Jones be dropped ahead of Week 5? Read on to see if Jones should return to your waiver wire.

Is Mac Jones A Fantasy Football QB1?
Mac Jones opened the season with 316 yards and three touchdown passes in a loss to the Eagles. It looked like Jones might be trending up based on that. He was a popular waiver wire addition after that.
But Jones saw his production drop off fairly quickly after that. He was the overall QB2 in Week 1, but he's now fallen down to the overall QB21 after three games, bottoming out at 2.7 fantasy points against Dallas this week.
Can I Drop Mac Jones in Fantasy Football?
Over the last three weeks, ones has thrown just two total touchdowns. Against Dallas this week, he failed to find the end zone but did throw a pair of interceptions. His lack of rushing upside meant he needed to consistently throw multiple touchdowns and avoid turnovers to be a good fantasy option. The past three weeks have shown that's not the case.
The turnovers. The lack of touchdown passes. The lack of rushing upside. There's just a lot working against Mac Jones right now. In leagues where you only start one quarterback, there's no reason to have Mac Jones on your roster right now.
Should I Start Mac Jones in Week 5?
If you do decide to keep Mac Jones on your team, you should at least keep him on the sidelines this week against the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints allow 17.0 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, which ranks 16th in the league. It's not an awful matchup, but Jones simply isn't good enough at this point to play unless he's got a really compelling matchup.
