Washington Commanders Jahan Dotson was a first-round pick last season and caught 35 passes for 523 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie. 2023 had the potential to be a breakout season for Dotson.
Instead, though six games he has just 17 catches for 140 yards and one score. What should we make of Dotson's performance this year?

Can Jahan Dotson Be A Reliable Fantasy Option?
Nothing about Jahan Dotson's 2023 season has been reliable. In Week 1, he caught five passes for 40 yards. He hasn't reached either mark since. It's been a struggle for Dotson all year.
Nowhere were those struggles more apparent than in Atlanta this past weekend. Dotson was only targeted once in the team's 24-16 loss, failing to bring it in. Meanwhile, Curtis Samuel caught four passes this week.
Samuel has now finished with more receiving yards than Dotson in five of the six Commanders games. It's clear that Samuel is the No. 2 receiver for the Commanders, not Jahan Dotson. Washington ranks 11th in the NFL in passing attempts per game, so there'd be some fantasy upside if Dotson passed Samuel in the pecking order, but it doesn't look like that's happening.
Can I Drop Jahan Dotson in Fantasy Football?
This question has two answers: the re-draft answer and the dynasty answer.
In dynasty leagues, managers should hold on to Jahan Dotson for now. He's a talented second-year receiver on a team whose quarterback, Sam Howell, doesn't look like the long-term answer. A third-year breakout with a more consistent quarterback under center is definitely possible.
But in re-draft leagues, Dotson just doesn't have upside right now. As I mentioned above, he hasn't had five receptions or 40 yards since Week 1, and those were his best marks of the year. He's a low-volume receiver right now who can be sent to the waiver wire in most leagues.
