Houston Texans running back Cam Akers has had one of the roughest starts to his career in NFL history. The former Florida State star has had awful luck with injuries.
Akers has dealt with multiple minor injuries, missing at least two games every year. However, he is famous for tearing both Achilles within a two-year window, suffering the injury in 2021 and 2023.
Yet, the veteran running back made Houston’s 53-man roster this summer. Does the former Florida State star have fantasy football value, or does he belong on the waiver wire?

Should I Drop Cam Akers?
The veteran running back was the RB26 last week, scoring 9.4 half-point PPR fantasy points in the loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Akers had a featured role in Week 3, with Joe Mixon (ankle) and Dameon Pierce (hamstring) missing the game because of injuries.
He might have significant fantasy value again in Week 4. Mixon and Pierce did not practice on Wednesday because of their injuries. While Pierce has a chance to play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mixon is considered a long shot to suit up against the AFC South division rivals.

Should I Start Cam Akers In Week 4?
Fantasy players should hope onto Akers until we see how the Texans’ injury report looks later this week. If Pierce and Mixon are out again this week, the former Florida State star is a top-20 running back. Last week, he had only nine rushing attempts for 21 yards against a talented Minnesota defense. Yet, his eight-yard receiving touchdown was Houston’s only score in the contest.

The Jaguars have surrendered 25.6 fantasy points per game to running backs over the first three weeks, the fourth-most in the NFL. They have given up 25.8 or more fantasy points in two games, including a season-high 37.6 last week to the Buffalo Bills’ backfield.
Akers is a borderline must-start if Mixon and Pierce can’t play in Week 4. Meanwhile, fantasy players should prefer Akers to Pierce if Mixon is the only Texans running back out this week.
