For the third straight year, fantasy managers heard the rumblings of an increased workload for Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson. Just a couple of years ago, it was that Gibson would have a "CMC type of role" in Washington's offense.
This year, it was how Gibson was going to be used in a bunch of different ways on offense. And for the third year in a row, it just hasn't been totally true. It's been a struggle for the 25-year-old back in the early going.
Should I drop Gibson in Week 7? Let's dive in.
What Did Antonio Gibson Do In Week 6?
Gibson hasn't been startable in fantasy this year in any weeks. In half-PPR formats, he has finished outside the top 25 at the running back position in six straight games and hasn't scored above 10 fantasy points in any contest this season.
In Week 6, the 25-year-old back ran just three times for 15 yards and caught one pass for one yard with one touchdown. Gibson secured his first touchdown of the season early in the second quarter when quarterback Sam Howell hit the running back in stride for the score.
Despite the touchdown, though, the Commanders running back had just four touches in the contest. He also played just 39% of the team snaps due to Washington being up for most of the game. Gibson hasn't been utilized much on offense so far and has just 29 touches through six games.
Can I Drop Antonio Gibson in Fantasy Football?
At this point in the season, Gibson can not be trusted in fantasy. He has five touches or fewer in five of six games this year and is a solid drop candidate heading into Week 7.
In a week with six teams on bye and multiple key players missing this weekend due to injury, there are likely better players on waivers than Gibson. The Commander's back should not be started moving forward and is likely just wasting a roster spot on your team.
With Brian Robinson Jr. taking most of the team's carries each week, Gibson is viewed more as the passing down back. As a result, the latter has only played 50-plus percent of the team snaps in two games this season -- both because Washington trailed big. Even then, he didn't produce much in fantasy.
Gibson should definitely be dropped in most 10-team leagues and is a borderline drop candidate in 12-team leagues.
