New England Patriots running back Antonio Gibson was once considered an up-and-coming superstar. His former head coach with the Washington Commanders once called Gibson the next Christian McCaffrey.
While fantasy players drooled at the chance he could be an elite RB1, the former Memphis star never turned into an elite running back. Furthermore, Gibson became less fantasy-relevant every year since entering the NFL.
The former Commander signed with the Patriots in the offseason as the No. 2 running back behind Rhamondre Stevenson. Should fantasy players keep him on their roster, or should they drop the veteran running back?

Should I Drop Antonio Gibson?
Gibson is the RB38 over the first three weeks, averaging 5.2 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. He had limited success in Week 1, averaging 2.6 yards per rushing attempt. However, the veteran was outstanding the following week against the Seattle Seahawks. Gibson had 11 rushing attempts for 96 yards and 10.8 fantasy points, all season-highs.

Unfortunately, he saw his role significantly reduced in Week 3. The former Memphis star had five rushing attempts for 29 yards, averaging 5.8 yards per attempt. While he was more productive than Stevenson, Gibson saw fewer rushing attempts against the New York Jets.
Fantasy players in deeper leagues should hold onto the veteran running back. He has handcuff appeal if Stevenson misses time with an injury. Furthermore, Gibson could earn a more consistent role on offense over the next few weeks. However, fantasy players can drop the veteran in standard-size leagues for a running back with more appeal on the waiver wire.
Who Can I Add Off The Waiver Wire?
The perfect waiver wire target for fantasy players is Roschon Johnson. After playing zero offensive snaps over the first two weeks, the former Texas start played 37% of the snaps in Week 3. More importantly, he was productive with his workload.
Johnson had 62 scrimmage yards on 12 touches last week, scoring 8.2 fantasy points. Reportedly, the second-year running back will see an increased role starting this week against the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy players should add Johnson off the waiver wire and see how things play out this weekend.
