The quarterback position has never been deeper for the NFL and fantasy football. While there are potentially 18 quarterbacks that fantasy players should feel comfortable starting in Week 1 this year, the elite passers stand out from the rest of the unit.
Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Jalen Hurts will be the first three quarterbacks drafted in most fantasy football leagues. However, which one should be the first quarterback drafted?
Let’s dive into all three superstars’ 2024 fantasy football outlook and determine who should get drafted as the QB1.

Josh Allen 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Allen was the QB1 in 2023 for the second consecutive season, averaging 23.1 fantasy points per game. He completed 66.5% of his pass attempts for 4,306 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. While Allen had his lowest passing touchdown total since 2019, Allen set a career-high with 15 rushing scores last year.

While the Buffalo Bills lost Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason, the team added Keon Coleman and Curtis Samuel. The rookie receiver has had an impressive training camp, giving fantasy players hope that Allen will have a talented enough receiving core to have another QB1 finish in 2024.
Patrick Mahomes 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Mahomes was the QB8 last season, averaging 17.5 fantasy points per game. The two-time MVP had the worst year of his career as the starter, averaging fewer than 20.5 fantasy points per game for the first time in his career. Mahomes completed 67.2% of his pass attempts for 4,183 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He set a career-high in interceptions and rushing yards (389) last year.

The Kansas City Chiefs improved Mahomes’ receiving core this offseason, adding Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy to pair with Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce. The veteran tight end is healthy after dealing with multiple injuries last year. Furthermore, Rice likely won’t be suspended for any off-the-field issues until the 2025 season.
Jalen Hurts 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook
Hurts was the QB2 last year, averaging 21 fantasy points per game. His passing production slightly declined, totaling only 157 more passing yards and one more touchdown despite playing in two more contests than in 2022. More importantly, Hurts had 15 interceptions after totaling 15 over his first two seasons as the starting quarterback. However, he set a career-high in rushing touchdowns (15).

While the Philadelphia Eagles lost Jason Kelce to retirement this offseason, they still have one of the top offensive lines in the NFL. More importantly, Saquon Barkley will cut into Hurts’ rushing touchdown total. Fantasy players should expect the superstar quarterback to have close to 10 rushing touchdowns in 2024 than his career-high total from last year.
Who Should I Draft?
Fantasy players should jump at the chance to draft any of the three superstar quarterbacks. They make up the top tier of quarterbacks in my rankings. However, Mahomes is my QB1. He has the best receiving core of his career. Furthermore, the superstar is the only quarterback of the trio to have over 5,000 passing yards in a season, doing it twice in his career (2018 and 2022).
