Is Garrett Wilson A Good Fantasy Football Pickup for Week 3? Waiver Wire Outlook

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson was selected 10th overall in the 2022 NFL draft after a 1,000-yard junior season at Ohio State. Obviously, wideouts taken that high start their careers on the fantasy radar, but with Joe Flacco set up to be the Week 1 starting quarterback, Wilson went undrafted in a lot of traditional fantasy leagues.

His Week 1 performance of four catches for 52 yards didn't get fantasy gamers' attention, but he's coming off of a major breakout in Week 2 of his NFL career.

Was his stellar performance a one-time thing and outlier, or should he be rostered in fantasy leagues of all shapes and sizes?

What Did Garrett Wilson Do In Week 2?

Wilson had an impressive rookie breakout, catching eight of his 14 targets for 102 yards and two touchdowns in the win against the Cleveland Browns. After two weeks, Wilson has drawn more targets (22) than any other Jets player, including Elijah Moore (12).

Most fantasy analysts projected Moore to be the No. 1 WR in New York, but it looks like Wilson has every opportunity to take that away from him. Obviously, it's only been two weeks and we can't overreact, but it's a surprising and impressive development thus far.

Should I Pick Garrett Wilson Off The Waiver Wire In Fantasy Football?

After seeing Wilson put up 30 fantasy points (PPR), it's clear he's worth picking up moving forward. His floor likely isn't safe in the Jets' up-and-down offense, but in fantasy football, we've got to chase the ceiling. Even without the two touchdowns, he would've had a solid fantasy output, and as the current target leader in the Jets offense, he can be started immediately, at least in deeper leagues.

It's worth noting things could change when Zach Wilson (knee) comes back for a few different reasons. For one, he might prefer to throw to Elijah Moore, as the two developed solid chemistry in their rookie seasons. Secondly, the offense could get worse. Flacco isn't considered a great quarterback at this point in his career, but his floor is certainly higher than Wilson's. Garrett Wilson is still worth picking up, but the QB situation is worth monitoring.
