ANALYSIS: Shin-Soo Choo finds himself in the ideal position for an aging ballplayer who could struggle to get into the lineup due to the fact that he is basically unusable in the field. Now that Delino DeShields is out for the next several weeks, it opens up an opportunity for the eagle-eyed Choo to cement himself at the top of the Texas Rangers' lineup. Choo will also benefit from the departure of Mike Napoli, allowing him to be the primary designated hitter. Not that he had much competition prior, but with DeShields out, other DH timeshares will find more playing time elsewhere.
Choo is off to a great start in 2018, hitting .318, but be wary of health issues but his chances of injury befalling him are significantly less so long as he's mainly a designated hitter. Choo will draw walks and won't make many mistakes at the plate. He can steal bases if needed and can still hit home runs, albeit not at a reliable rate. Small leagues be wary as there are likely more productive players available, but in larger formats, I'd highly recommend grabbing him now as his stock is on the rise.
