Shay Whitcomb is a fantasy baseball waiver wire stash for Week 14 (2024). Target Shay Whitcomb as a top prospect free-agent waiver wire pickup for fantasy baseball.
BALLER MOVE: Stash in Deeper Leagues
CALL-UP ETA: August
ANALYSIS: While the Houston Astros don't have a clear opening right now at the Major League level, infielder Shay Whitcomb is worth monitoring due to his performance this season.
Shay Whitcomb last 34 games for Sugar Land:
.358 BA/.425 OBP/.664 SLG, 4 2B, 2 3B, 11 HR, 37 RBI, 9 SB, 21.6 K%, 164 wRC+

Whitcomb already has racked up 17 home runs and 13 steals in 68 games while slashing an impressive .309/.390/.571 with an 11.3% walk rate and 22.3% strikeout rate. This comes after a 35/20 season in 2023, a 19/20 season in 2022, and a 23/30 season in 2021. I'm not sure how high the AVG will be, but Whitcomb is the only prospect to have more than 80 home runs and 80 steals in the minors since the start of the 2021 season. He's started games at second base, third base, shortstop, and a few in the outfield as well, and that flexibility should only help him moving forward.
