BALLER MOVE: Stash Everywhere
CALL-UP ETA: June/July 2024
ANALYSIS: It's been a long and arduous road for 2017 first-round draft pick (12th overall), Shane Baz. Baz made his long-awaited debut in May of 2024, after a 22-month recovery process from his July 2022 Tommy John surgery. The Rays have been taking every precaution to limit any potential setbacks and get Baz back on the mound for them as soon as possible.
The 6-foot-3 right-hander has been excellent over his last two starts (1-0) for the Triple-A Durham Bulls, striking out 14, and allowing one earned run, while working his pitch count up into the 80s. At this point, barring any future concerns, Baz looks to have two or three more starts in minors before a call-up around the All-Star break.

Baz is no longer IL-eligible in fantasy leagues which makes it much more difficult to stash him without an N/A spot. If you've held him thus far, congratulations, you're one of very few.
Baz is currently available in 88% in Yahoo leagues and 95% in ESPN leagues but that number is sure to drop significantly when he gets the promotion. Once he gets back to the Bay, there will be an innings limit as Tampa will continue to, slowly, ease him back into action.
While expectations out of the gate should be tempered, Baz should be a solid source of strikeouts for fantasy teams and can also help add wins if the Rays can somehow pull it together and regain the magic they had during their 99-win season in 2023.
