Analysis: There has been a very positive shakeup in the St.Louis bullpen. At 33 years old Seung Hwan Oh is in his first MLB season and he came to the the U.S. with quite a pedigree. After dominating the South Korean and Japanese baseball leagues since 2005 to the tune of a 1.81 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9, and 10.7 K/9, Oh hasn't missed a beat in relief for the Cardinals. This season, he has a 1.71 ERA, 0.905 WHIP, 1.69 FIP, 0.2 HR/9, 2.8 BB/9, and 12.2 K/9. It's like he doesn't even notice the transition from Japan to America.
A new statistic that entered Oh's MLB totals recently was saves, of which he has two. This is because Trevor Rosenthal, the Cardinal closer to start the 2016 season; was recently removed from the 9th inning spot after he was producing a 5.67 ERA, 2.11 WHIP, 11.7 Hits/9, and an atrocious 7.3 BB/9. With Rosenthal's abysmal command and Oh's straight up dominance this season, it looks like the latter will be receiving the save opportunities. With Seung Hwan Oh's performance from the mound this year, that should make him one of the most valuable closers in baseball.
